Sabin welcomes a new community-minded business to 15th and Prescott, Revival Drum Shop. Revival is the dream made into reality by percussionists Jose Medeles (the drummer for the Breeders) and Scott McPherson (who’s repetoire includes tours with She & Him, Beck as well as the late and great Elliot Smith). Medeles reported that the shop’s grand opening party on January 31st was a huge success with guest DJs that included Joe Plummer (Modest Mouse), Mike Demay (Mike Coykendall Band), and Karen Antunes (Mississippi Records.) A writer for the New York Times even stopped by to jot down a few notes and take in the scene. “The idea of Revival came from the local need for a retreat where drummers of all walks of life could go to, hit some great old drums, cymbals and hang out,” Medeles says. Revival carries vintage and custom drums and cymbals, eclectic percussion pieces, drumheads, sticks, parts and accessories. Their services include: repairs, rentals, lessons, workshops and kids programs. Events slated for February include: 2/10 in celebration of Chick Webb’s Birthday you can listen to his recordings all day long and on 2/13 the shop will mount drum inspired visual art by Johnny Marr (Modest Mouse), Kim and Kelley Deal (Breeders), Janet Weiss (Quasi), and Wayne Coyne, Steven Drozd & Kliph Scurlock (Flaming Lips) and others.
Revival Drum Shop is located at 1465 NE Prescott St. and is open 10:30-6:00 Mon.-Sun..
